Dear Critics Of the Solar Power Industry,

While nobody could ever claim there's nothing wrong with the solar power industry, it, like every other fledgling industry, is doing its best to learn from its mistakes and rectifying as many of the facets of the industry that are problematic as possible.

But, let's look at the reasons you have for criticizing the industry in the first place and see if we can't respond to those criticisms and present the industry in a more favorable light.

Pollution Resulting From The Manufacturing Process

One of the major criticisms leveled at the solar industry is the amount of pollution created during the process of manufacturing photovoltaic panels. However, it should be noted that the solar industry is one of the most highly self-regulated industries there is. After all, it's somewhat counter-intuitive for an industry whose main goal is to reduce pollution from fossil fuels by generating clean renewable energy to then turn around and produce the type of pollution it aims to eradicate!

The fact is that the pollution levels produced by the solar manufacturing industry have been found to be acceptable by such U.S. funded agencies as the NREL (National Renewable Energy Laboratory). Not only that, but the solar manufacturing industry is one of the best at recycling and re-using materials among major manufacturing industries, further reducing the effects of pollution.

Manufacturing PV Panels Takes More Energy Than They Produce

Another criticism you critics raise is that more energy is used in the manufacture of PV panels than the panels actually produce.

Well, not so, and here's why. The energy used to produce PV panels is recovered within 2 to 4 years, but the really great news (and this is something you critics won't enjoy hearing) is that PV panels produce energy for 25-30 years, which means they continue to produce energy for another 20-25 years beyond the amount of time it takes to cover the amount of energy used in production. In other words, PV panels produce from 5 to 10 times more energy than the amount needed to manufacture them, which would appear to render that particular piece of criticism null and void, in a big way.

While we're sure you critics will continue to find arguments against solar power and the solar power industry in general, for now we believe the benefits of solar power discussed here answer the major criticisms you currently bring against solar power.

The amount of pollution being created by traditional forms of energy is at a level that is unsustainable, and solar power and other renewable energies are the only way we can hope to ensure there'll be a planet left for future generations to enjoy, so please consider that as you criticize an industry that has the potential to help us avoid a total catastrophe.
