Many people have started to become aware of the importance of making their home more green. You don't have to build a new home to make your current household use less energy and thus produce less waste. You hear ads for more energy efficient items which make people start looking at their wallets though for the best environmental difference it is energy consumption that makes the biggest impact.

If you are thinking about building a new home and want to make it a green home here are a few things to think about.

First, if you truly want to build a green home don't build. The reality is there is a strong argument that we currently have too many homes for people to live in currently and all actions taken to build a home uses more energy than an existing home. A true green home is renovated to make it more earth friendly.

Another important aspect to green homes is that you make your house with energy efficient items to make it 15% more efficient than your neighbor only to double the size of the house then you are still using far more energy in consumption. For green homes smaller is better as they use less energy. The best addition to a home to make it more green is the insulation levels and the ability for air to escape around doors and windows.
When building or remodeling your home to make it more green remember that the house's total energy consumption is far more important than efficiency percentages.

Be aware with the different green technology items out their to purchase the single greatest decrease in energy consumption for your house which is making it air tight. The more air escapes the more you spend in money and energy consumption to heat or cool. Remember that when you build a air tight house to keep the air healthy inside.

One thing to remember that all actions taken to make your life more green makes a differences. If every person does just one thing a day to make the world use less energy it will make a significant change for our future generations.

The key to green living is cutting through the hype and understanding that some of the simplest things make bigger differences than some of the biggest promotions. Keep in mind that some of the best ways to go green don't cost anything and actually save you more money in the long term.
