Recycling Resources in Frankfort, Kentucky‏

One of the keys to keeping our world as a livable planet for future generations is taking care of it and the resources it provides for us. Recycling is one of the keys to making sure the world lasts a little longer. In Frankfort, Kentucky, like a growing number of communities, residents are able to take advantage of the resources provided to them through the curbside recycling program.

For Frankfort residents, recycling and garbage are picked up on the same day. To make sure they take advantage of this program, residents are encouraged to put their recycling in the special bin provided to them by the city. Since they already have the resource of a red bin for their recycling, residents who put their recycling in plastic bags will not get that recycling collected.

Frankfort residents who use the resource of their city's curbside recycling, have four areas of items that the city will pick-up with the recycling. First of all, there's paper. This includes newspaper, phone books, flyers, shredded paper, office paper, magazines, and other related paper. The second area is plastic bottles. Unlike some communities, Frankfort's recycling program has resources allowing them to collect plastic bottles with the numbers one through five. This includes items ranging from soft drink containers to bleach bottles and milk jugs. All the city asks of those recycling these items is that the person rinses out the bottles before putting them among the recyclables. A third area is cans. This includes aluminum cans as well as steel food cans and aerosol cans. Like with the plastic bottles, residents are expected to make sure their cans are clean before recycling them. The final area of recyclables that the Frankfort, Kentucky curbside recycling program will take is corrugated cardboard. This includes things like box board and pizza boxes, but like everything else, these boxes also need to be clean to be recycled. One thing that makes the cardboard different, though, is that residents are asked to break it down and put it under the red recycling bin.

For Frankfort, Kentucky residents who want to take even better advantage of the resources provided to their city through a recycling program, Frankfort also has a drop-off facility for recycling. Everything collected curbside is also able to be dropped off at the drop-off facility. Fortunately, though, the drop-off facility has resources to take items not collected through curbside collection. One thing is glass bottles and jars. The other thing the drop-off center will take that the curbside services did not take is what they call e-scraps. This is things such as computers, mouse, keyboards, and printers.

There are also locations in Frankfort which will take and reuse or recycle other items people might have at their homes and no longer want. For example, batteries can go to the Radio Shack in Frankfort. Used motor oil and cars that are no longer wanted can go to a couple of car parts stores in the area. Local tire dealers will take used tires. The focus upon the need to recycle and reuse shows that Frankfort residents understand the importance of preserving the resources of the world. Although they may seem to be there all the time, they really are no unlimited.
