Recycling resources is an important way to ensure that our world continues to be a place where we can live and thrive. There are many different ways that people can recycle and work to preserve the natural resources of their community. In Columbus, Ohio, many people are involved in various recycling efforts.
Once someone is done with their computer and other computer accessories, often these resources end up in landfills and other locations where they cause harm to the environment. Fortunately for residents of Columbus, Ohio, there are many locations throughout the area that provide the resources to recycle old computer parts including monitors, keyboards, mouse, printers, and other computer parts. There are 12 locations throughout the Columbus area which participate in the program to recycle computers and computer parts with three locations directly in Columbus.
To save on waste and encourage recycling, there are several locations throughout Columbus, Ohio where recyclables can be dropped off. These include schools, fire stations, stores, recreation centers, and parks. Altogether there are about 200 drop-off locations throughout the Columbus area. These locations have the resources to accept several different types of recyclable materials. This includes all plastic bottles with the numbers one to seven on them.
Although the bottles need to be rinsed, labels do not have to be removed. The drop-off centers will also accept glass including clear, brown, green, or blue glass bottles or jar. These also need to be rinsed, but labels do not need to be removed. Columbus' drop-off centers will also accept paper including newspaper, corrugated cardboard, office paper, brown grocery bags, magazines, and office paper. Metals including aluminum cans, steel or tin cans, aluminum foil, and empty aerosol cans are also accepted through the city's drop-off centers. As with the plastic and glass, these containers also need to be rinsed, but labels do not need to be removed.
Although the city of Columbus does not automatic curbside recycling with their waste management program, residents who do not want to have to take their recyclable items to drop-off points can subscribe to the curbside recycling resource for less $33 for four months. Everything that is recyclable through the drop-off recycling program is also recyclable through the curbside recycling program. Residents, though, are asked to keep their paper recycling separated from the rest of their recycling. This is done by putting all paper recycling in a paper grocery bag.
Even though curbside recycling does not come free to Columbus residents, curbside weekly pick-up of yard waste is a resource the city provides for its residents. Yard waste is supposed to be put in biodegradable paper yard-waste bags or the person's own plastic or metal containers with a "yard waste" label on it. Yard waste can include things like yard clippings, branches, leaves, and other yard waste. Dirt, sod, and rocks, though, should not be included in the person's container or bags of yard waste. Branches and twigs should be bundled together with string or twine and should not exceed four feet in length or two feet around. Yard waste should not exceed 50 pounds. After it is picked up, yard waste is recycled into mulch and other landscaping products to be used again.
