An innovative electrical appliance manufactured in Korea, 'The Loofen' operates by completely drying out and drastically reducing the size and weight of food waste. "You simply plug in 'The Loofen' in your kitchen and feed it with the food waste that you normally put into the bin throughout the day," explained MD of Loofen Ireland, Jim Murphy.
"Within 24 hours all that will be left in 'The Loofen' is an odourless, dried-out substance which you empty into your bin or your composter. The food waste will have reduced by up to 80% of its original weight and by up to 70% of its original volume".
Most local authorises in Ireland now operate a pay-per-weight waste management system and according to Murphy, householders can now significantly reduce their refuse bills by introducing a Loofen to their home.
The Loofen also has a number of other benefits, including eliminating bacteria from the kitchen. The Loofen will prevent bad food smells in your kitchen as the food waste treated by the Loofen becomes odourless. In turn, this will prevent flies and wasps gathering in your room. In addition to this, many householders often experience the problem of leaking bin bags which can destroy floors and carpets when they are removing them outside for collection. 'The Loofen' can also help you address this problem as all food waste becomes liquid free.'
