Why Are Fossil Fuels Still So Heavily Used?

By Ned Hall

Renewable energy may be a hot topic these days but fossil fuels are still the dominant sources of energy across the globe. We know that fossil fuels are bad for our environment, and that there is a great possibility that in the next 100 years the world will run out of oil, coal, and natural gas but despite this knowledge we continue to heavily depend on fossil fuels to satisfy our energy demands? Why?

Some will say it is because renewable energy is still developing, and every development takes some time. But why not speed up things a bit, especially since we know that fossil fuel use does great damage to our environment, and especially serious is the issue of climate change that threatens us with catastrophe in years to come?

Powerful coal, oil, and natural gas lobbies may be one of the reasons why we neglect renewables and continue with coal, oil, and natural gas. These powerful lobbies control industry, and controlling industry means also controlling politics. If that wasn't the case then the new climate deal would have happened at least a decade ago.

Yes I agree that world needs more and more energy, and that our industry is based on excessive use of fossil fuels but we must not only think about our economies and industries but also about our planet's health that by current standards, looks to be in great jeopardy.

Renewable energy seems like a very logical solution to save our planet so why not give it a shot?

Ned Hall among other things likes to write about renewable energy advantages, and he has so far written many interesting renewable energy articles.
